“But if they move that number of girls to Cameroon, people will see.”
President Goodluck Jonathan said on Friday that the over 250 girls kidnapped from Chibok, Borno State are still in Nigeria.
The president said the reports that the girls have been moved to neighbouring African countries like CAR and Cameroon were not true.
“There are stories that they have moved them outside of the country.
“But if they move that number of girls to Cameroon, people will see, so I believe they are still in Nigeria,” Reuters quotes Mr. Jonathan as saying while addressing journalists on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Abuja.
Mr. Jonathan had said on Sunday during his seventh Presidential Media Chat that the federal government does not know the whereabouts of the girls.
The girls were kidnapped on April 14 from their school dormitory at the Government Secondary School in Chibok, Borno State.
The Boko Haram has claimed responsibility for the kidnap and has threatened to sell and marry off the girls.
There has been local and international condemnation of the kidnap with the U.S., U.K., and China pledging to assist Nigeria with officials and resources in the rescue efforts.
