Breaking News' 17 Feared Dead As Fresh Violence EruptsIn Taraba

NO FEWER THAN 17 WERE KILLED BY UNKNOWN GUNMEN DURING AN ASSAULT ON A VILLAGE IN TARABA STATE ON MARCH 23, 2014, WEDNESDAY.

 The stated is being torn apart by the ethno-religious violence, involving the mostly Christian ethnic Jukun against their Muslim Hausa and Fulani neighbours. All of them are rivals in the race for political control of the state.

 According to AFP who spoke with a local police source, the gunmen, dressed-up in military uniform, stormed the village, set buildings ablaze and started shooting the residents on sight.

 > "Some unknown gunmen attacked Kauyen-Yaku village and killed 17 people while four others were injured. Several homes were burnt in the attack by the gunmen, who came from neighbouring Nasarawa state," the source confirmed.

 However, the villagers supposed the gunmen were ethnic Fulani herdsmen.

 The residents of another mainly Christian village in the state mentioned that THE DEATH TOLL FROM THE RAID on April 22, 2014, Tuesday, has increased to 35, while at least 15 of villagers remained missing.

 The curfew is still in force in the state, but it does not bear fruit. Tensions are high and the whole area is boiling.

 At the same time, the Acting Governor of Taraba State, Alhaji Garba UMAR IS GOING TO SEND A DELEGATION TO THE GOVERNMENT OF BENUE State for negotiating the steps required to stop endless battle between Fulani and their members in the area.
